Chapter 5

Adam woke beside Rose and Heath. She was on her back, and her outstretched hand rested casually on Adam’s heart. She lay under Heath, pulled close in his embrace, and his head rested against her breasts. A wave of tenderness rolled over him as he looked at them. He reached over and touched Heath’s cheek. Heath drew in his breath sharply and his eyes fluttered open.

“Sorry to wake you,” Adam whispered.

Heath smiled as he pulled his arms out from underneath Rose and inched away from her. “I know you can’t resist touching me in the morning.”

Adam took Heath’s face in his hands and kissed him. He kept the kiss soft and gentle, and Heath sighed against his lips.

“Hold that thought,” Heath said as he eased off the bed and went into the bathroom.

Adam reclined next to Rose, and she rolled closer in response to his body heat. He put one arm around her to bring her body even nearer and kissed her. Her lips parted, and she welcomed the kiss eagerly.

“Good morning, Adam,” she said before opening her eyes to look up at him.

His hand tightened on her waist. “You could tell it was me?”

She nodded. “Your scent gave you away.” She ran her hand down his chest and over his stomach. “And the way you swirl your tongue.”

Adam could see the comment worried her, but he wouldn’t lie simply to make her feel better. “He does, Rose.”

“That’s not possible. You two hardly know me.”

“If love only developed through gaining knowledge about another person, most friendships would be ten times more complicated.”

They heard the toilet flush, and then the sink running.

He added, “He does. I can tell. I don’t blame him.”

“You…” She let her voice trail off as she stared at him.

“No, but I am definitely falling for you, my dear.” He pulled her back against his body. “I’m doing other things for you as well.”

She laughed. He could still hear a little nervous lilt in the sound.

“Like what?”
